I enjoy shopping for homeware items just as much as I enjoy shopping for clothes. Just like you can update your personal style economically by purchasing a new statement necklace or pair of sunglasses rather than overhauling your entire wardrobe, so to can you update your home with accessories rather than digging deep into your savings to splurge on new furniture. Adding some new home additions during the year gives your home a mini makeover and, hopefully, puts a smile on your face at the same too.
Also home accessories are a great way to play around with new home trends in a modest way. Copper has been a huge interiors trend this year and I for one am a big fan. Phill and I’s bedroom has copper accents, which look beautiful next to our dark wood bedroom furniture. I decided to get a few more copper pieces for Phill’s side of the room. He needed more storage for his jewellery and I thought this copper divider box from notonthehighstreet.com was perfect for his leather bracelets and watches. I love transparent storage pieces for jewellery as it tidies everything away whilst still allowing you to enjoy the beauty of your personal items.
To go with his new jewellery box, I also got a zinc and glass frame which I’d been eyeing up for a long time. I love that you can treat it like you would a pinboard/noticeboard, putting things like photos, postcards and tickets in it to act as a little memory frame.
Next up on my ‘to-get’ list for the house was some old fashioned glass and cermaic storage jars for the kitchen. I can’t get enough of these types of jars. They are perfect for keeping baking ingredients like flour and sugar fresh, as well as pasta, seeds and nuts. They are functional and attractive to look at – perfect!
My go-to place for interesting homewares is without a doubt notonthehighstreet.com. I dare you not to visit this site and discover items you don’t know how you lived without! This tall glass bottle vase is one such example. I spotted it and realised it’s exactly the item my home was lacking – a beautifully simple vase for fresh flowers. I absolutely love it even though it doesn’t hold that many flowers! It’s made with recycled glass and is very heavy. I’m definitely going to make more of an effort to buy fresh flowers now as they do bring a smile to my face when I spot them in the morning and then again when I return home for work.
Have you been adding any new homewares to your rooms lately?
Thank you to notonthehighstreet.com for sending me these items to use and review.
