Caring for my teeth has always been one of my top health and beauty priorities. Since I was a little girl my Mum instilled in me the importance of brushing my teeth and oral hygiene and to this day I look after my teeth a lot. Not that it takes much – all I do is brush morning and evening (never after food) with a regular toothbrush and just a pea sized amount of toothpaste. I also floss most evenings and use mouth wash two/three times a week. On top of that I visit the dentist regularly and receive teeth cleaning.
In the past few years I have, however, noticed my teeth getting a little bit yellowy – especially at the tops of my teeth and on my incisors. This is something to be expected considering I’m thirty years old now and drink tea and coffee every day. But I didn’t just want to accept that my teeth where loosing their whiteness. I wanted to give them a much-needed boost and to off-set the caffeine-induced discolouration. After thinking about teeth whitening for well over two years, I eventually decided to get the Zoom Whitening treatment at Martina Collins Dental & Skin Clinic in Belfast.
After a consultation with Martina, we both agreed that the Zoom Whitening home kit would be ideal for me and that I didn’t need any teeth lasering as my teeth were not that discoloured. On the teeth colouration chart I was classified as an A2 (see image below). For those people who have a greater degree of teeth discolouration then initial laser treatment may be advisable.
At the end of the consultation Martina took moulds of my teeth to be sent off to have custom-fit teeth whitening moulds. Within the week I picked the new moulds and the whitening gel. I was advised to use the kits every day for approximately two weeks for between 30 minutes to one hour at a time. All I had to do was put a small blob of gel in each tooth imprint in the mould, before then placing the top and bottom moulds in my mouth.
I noticed a positive difference in the whiteness of my teeth within the first few days but then I didn’t feel like the shade of my teeth brightened that much more afterwards. After the two weeks were up I visited Martina for a progress check. She felt my teeth had brightened up but since I still had whitening gel left she advised me to continue the treatment until the gel was finished. On my second progress check-up, Martina was very pleased and said my teeth colour had lifted four shades – from an A2 to a B1. B1 is the brightest shade on the teeth colouration scale so of course I was encouraged by the results.
If you’re expecting crazy celebrity white teeth then the Zoom Whitening home kit is not for you. You would need to go down the teeth lasering route to achieve this. The Zoom Whitening home kit is about achieving a realistic teeth whiteness for your teeth. If, for example, you are a B3 on the scale, you can’t realisitically expect to get the B1 results I did after just two weeks.
I will definitely continue to use the Zoom Whitening kit and pick up gel refills from Martina Collins as and when I need them. Martina recommends using the kit a few times every month to keep on top of the new whiteness. This makes sense, especially since I haven’t given up coffee, tea or chocolate!
Martina and her team were an absolute pleasure to deal with and I’d like to thank them for giving me the opportunity to review the Zoom Whitening on Willow Lane.
