A day that starts off with a cooked breakfast, includes a spa getaway and a slap-up lunch, and requires no driving or stressful organisation, well that would count as a pretty perfect day in my eyes. A few weeks ago I enjoyed a ‘Treat Thursday’ courtesy of McComb’s Coach Travel and Hastings Hotels. To celebrate the launch of the McCombs Treat Thursday Spa Day to Slieve Donard resort and spa, myself and a handful of other press and blogger folk got a special preview of what exactly the day would entail.
The day started at 9am when we gathered at the lovely Europa Hotel for breakfast. I enjoyed some granola followed by a lovely cooked breakfast and a cup of tea. Soon it was time to board the McCombs luxury leather upholstered coach, where we enjoyed a glass or two (or three) of bubbly. It took us just an hour to arrive at the majestic Slieve Donard resort and spa in Newcastle, Northern Ireland. Upon arrival, we were greeted by staff and taken for Prosecco and sweet treats.
It wasn’t long before I was slipping into my one piece in the immaculate spa changing rooms. By this stage us girls (Louise of The Real Elle Woods, Kathryn of Fabulous and Something, Emer of NI Gossip Guy and Lucy Evangelista) were feeling a little giddy. The combination of prosecco and the anticipation of a lovely spa break and lunch had us in a very good (and chatty) mood.

I’ve never been to the Slieve Donard before and I was very impressed with all the interiors and the welcoming staff. The spa area itself is tranquil, with stunning views over Newcastle. I took the opportunity to enjoy the hot vitality pool and take in the views, before doing a few lengths of the pool. Whilst I didn’t venture into the sauna of steam room, some of the others did. No spa treatments were included in our day trip. I would have absolutely loved a massage but I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with my blogger friends in such relaxing surroundings.
After an hour and half of spa time, we were ready for lunch. The Percy French restaurant is run by the Slieve Donard but is separate to the main building. For main course we had the option of a steak sandwich, superfood salad, salmon or vegtable stir fry. I opted for the salmon, which was served with basil mash and tomato tapenade. It was sizable portion and I ate ever last morsel. For dessert, I went for the bailey’s cheesecake, and much to my delight I was served two slices! This really was a treat day! And one I’d quite like to repeat soon…
The McComb’s Travel Treat Thursday Spa Day will be available on the last Thursday of every month from Thursday 25 February, and costs £95 per person. I can see these days being a bit hit with ladies who fancy a bit of luxury – from mothers and daughters to best friends. It would make a great gift idea for someone who deserves a real treat day! A big thank you to McCombs Travel for inviting me on this preview trip, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
