Christmas time is the perfect excuse to meet up with those closest to us, swap cards and presents…and have a bit of a party. Nowadays, I prefer get-togethers at home, where I can relax with people and not spend a fortune dining out or drinking in a bar. I’m not into hosting big fancy dinners or anything but I do like to get in some quality party food and play classic Christmas tunes when I have people over for a Christmas get-together!
With this in mind, I thought I’d put together a little Christmas Party Essentials feature to get us all properly in the festive mood (just in case some of you are still ‘not feeling it yet’). Personally I think there are three key ingredients to hosting a stress-free festive party and they are:
1. Easy to cook party food & plenty of fizz
2. Festive tableware that doesn’t mean a mountain of dishes
3. Rolicking good Christmas party tunes
Are you in agreement? If so, read on for my top recommendations for hosting a fun-filled and festive party at home.
Festive Food & Fizz
My go-to for party food of any kind – but particularly for Christmas bites and snacks – is Marks and Spencer. This year I’ve stocked my fridge and freezer with lots of M&S festive party food, including their handcrafted mature cheddar and caramelized pastry rolls and mini posh dogs. When it comes to dessert, their salted caramel sunken cheesecake is sublime and they have tons of mini cakes and desserts to choose from. Phill is a big fan of their wine selection whilst I love their Irish cream liqueur…so good and in yummy flavours including Chocolate and Clementine Cream.
Fun Christmas Partyware
Making the effort to buy some party tableware is always a good idea. These days I’m all for disposable plates and cups (I make sure to recycle them afterwards!) as it means I don’t have to worry about doing lots of dishes once everyone has left and gone home. Since using Dazzle and Fizz party pieces for Rose’s first birthday, I rate them really highly so they are my top picks for this year. They have a selection of child friendly Christmas tableware and more sophisticated ranges for adults.
Christmas Party Playlist
It wouldn’t be a party without music and it certainly wouldn’t be a Christmas party without Christmas music. I’m a big fan of classic Christmas songs like Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ and I know ‘Fairtytale of New York’ by The Pogues is a favourite of most people’s. Playing Christmas music puts me in a good mood so I’ll be sure to have a Christmas album or playlist playing from Spotify for my guests.
I’d love to know what makes a Christmas Party a success for you. Let me know in the comments!
